Every state in Australia has identified standards of professional performance as an essential part of their strategic plan in forthcoming years. For example he Western Australian Department of Education’s Strategic Plan for WA Public Schools 2016 – 2019 has identified as its second priority high quality teaching with key foci including:
- An articulation of high expectations and standards of teacher performance through induction, professional learning and evaluation based on the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
- An expectation of a proportion of teachers assessed as proficient against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
- The extent to which graduate teachers are supported to achieve proficiency against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers

This course is designed to support teachers and schools address this priority by introducing the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and helping them identify the key components of the teacher accreditation process as it relates to their state context.
