There are three tiers or levels that teachers need to consider in their accreditation process:

  1. Performance Management / Appraisal at the school level is the first tier of performance appraisal that teachers are now required to undertake. The PM process, while guided by systemic policies and procedures, is usually determined at the school. It is therefore imperative that teachers find out the exact procedure that will be undertaken at his or her school.
  2. Teacher Registration is the second tier of the accreditation process which focuses on state requirements.
Each state and territory has a Teacher Registration Board that manages and regulates the registration of teachers.
  3. The Professional Standards for Teachers is the third tier in the teacher accreditation process and provides the framework by which state education systems can assess the quality of their teachers.

This module identifies the key components of each of these tiers and how teachers can address the requirements of eah tier.
